Energy-Saving Home Heating Tips to Follow This Winter

Mark J. Biel • December 25, 2020

Now that winter is fast approaching, more and more homeowners are beginning to prepare their homes so they’ll remain warm and comfortable throughout the season. In fact, there are a number of ways to accomplish this. Some do it by having their windows or roofs replaced, while others get a  new heating system installation  for their homes. However, there are a few simpler ways to do this; for example, by configuring your thermostat for the seasons and following a few other home heating tips, such as:

Set your thermostat to 68 degrees fahrenheit . When configuring your home’s thermostat for the winter season, experts recommend that you set your thermostat to 68 degrees fahrenheit. This is because it’s the ideal balance of  comfort and energy efficiency during the season, allowing you to save up to 10% a year on heating and cooling costs in the process, especially when you dial the thermostat down by 10-12 degrees fahrenheit at night or when you’re away.

Bundle up . In addition to configuring your thermostat,  new air conditioning  pros also say that you should bundle up during the winter season. If needed, dress warmly even in your home and use an electric blanket for extra warmth. This way, you and your family can rely less on your furnace, helping you save a significant amount in the process.

Close doors and vents in unused rooms . Finally, if you have any unused rooms in your house, be sure to close their doors and vents as well. By so doing, your furnace will have an easier time reaching the desired temperature in occupied living spaces, which in turn prevents you from having to turn up your thermostat’s dial.
