These temperatures may not be what you’re used to, so it’s best to ease into things by adjusting the thermostat gradually. To help you and your family get acclimated, set your thermostat one degree lower each week until the recommended temperatures are achieved.

Turn down (or up) the heat or air conditioning about 30 minutes before leaving the house. There should be enough residual heat or cool air remaining to help keep you comfortable until you step out.
